An identity provider (IdP or IDP) stores and manages users’ digital identities. Think of an IdP as being like a guest list, but for digital and cloud-hosted applications instead of an event. An IdP may check user identities via username-password combinations and other factors, or it may simply provide a list of user identities that another service provider (like an SSO) checks.

Mandatory Access Control (MAC) is a type of access control system that limits access to resources based on security labels. It is used in many different types of organizations and for many cyber security purposes. MAC works by assigning each user a specific label, or clearance level, that determines what data they can view or modify. Access to sensitive information like financial records or customer data is limited to those with the highest clearance levels, while access to less important information is made available to everybody. By setting up these levels of security, organizations can ensure that only authorized users are granted access to sensitive information, providing them with increased security and protection from malicious attacks.

802.1x is an authentication protocol used for network access control. It allows users to be authenticated before being allowed connection to a local area network (LAN). It helps ensure only authorized users can gain access, protecting the network from malicious activity or data loss. To use 802.1x, devices must support the protocol and have an authentication server in place. The device attempting to connect sends credentials which are verified against those stored on the authentication server before granting access.
